Earlier today a surprise was shared with the Award winning Regiment of Gold, when Ed Morales, Rose Parade President announced, via video, that the CHS Band was chosen to March in the prestigious Rose Parade on January 1, 2025.
Cerritos High School will be part of a mega marching band known as the 605 All Star consisting of nearly 500 members. The band will consist of students from 8 different high schools in our district, Artesia and Gahr, but also Bellflower and Mayfair High School to name a couple. This is the first time in Rose Bowl history that a mega band has been created with multiple school districts.
Becoming a Rose Parade participant is an honor that is truly earned. The process included a principal recommendation, video performance, contact with our Board and Superintendent. Most importantly it is the culmination of early mornings and late nights.
The practice is not over. Starting Thanksgiving of 2024 students will spend their Sundays fine tuning their performance up until the take to the Pasadena parade route.
Current Cerritos High School band director, Mr. Robert Westphal, is thrilled with the opportunity his students now have, “I took part in the Rose Parade when I was junior in High School, it was amazing. I want my students to experience the same excitement and joy I did.”
Regiment of Gold, you have made us all very proud! Keep shining.
