The girls varsity volleyball season was one to remember. They accomplished so much and had a great streak. Jazmine Kastner (#14) who is libero for varsity always dives and hustles on the court. Chloe Cruz (#27) captain of the varsity and is a great setter who always gives great sets to the hitters. Isabella Dantzler (#17) who is a middle blocker, was getting great hits to the point where other teams couldn’t catch up. One of the best games I have watched was the game against Whitney. The Whitney game was their best game. They did so well, this was an important game to them and the crowd. They had a great season. They even made it to the 605 league by placing high. They made it to CIF while most teams didn’t meet the CIF requirements which is amazing for our varsity. They made CIF every year, this shows how much commitment they have; what this means to them. “I want to go all the way to the finals. I especially want to win the quarter-finals, as that is the farthest we have ever gone,” says Chloe Cruz in an interview before the CIF game. They worked so hard this season and their games were so important here at Cerritos.
The students, parents, teachers, and staff cheered on the girl’s varsity from the beginning to the end. The first set started at 6:10 p.m. with the first server Jasmine Kastner (#14). Girls varsity played well in the first set ending with 18-25, they were close to victory. While the second set was the end. The firstset started at 6:10 p.m. with the first server Jasmine Kastner (#14). Girls varsity played well in the first set ending with 18-25, they were close to victory. While the second set was even closer to a win 24-26, the players started feeling the pressure and were very focused. The second set got a great save by Laila Tolentino (#25).
Their sidelines were cheering after every point was scored. The third and last set then started with great digs, passes, hustling, and cheering. It was another close win with the score being 23-25.
They played well and Cerritos will continue to support them. After the game was over Coach Cuthbert spoke on the finished game, “The team is getting more consistent, making fewer mistakes, passing and serving better. The interactions between players are better, and players are getting closer every time we play.” The team showed great sportsmanship and also showed sympathy and support for each other due to the loss. This was a very important game for varsity as it was their last, but just like the crowd was cheering at the beginning, they were still cheering for them at the end, but this time with a standing ovation.
CIF is a California Interscholastic Federation that helps students develop importance in lessons and values. The CIF motto is “Pursuing Victory With Honor,” this provides the developing potential that has an impact on the athletic community.
CIF was founded in 1913 at a high school track meet, a year later CIF was established and created as a way to help athletes. CIF says that they help “promote sportsmanship, honesty, and high academic standards in order to increase the integrity of children and adults across the state.” This helps all athletes and encourages varsity to continue striving for perfection.
The energy began immediately when the announcer called out the first girl from Cerritos and continued while announcing all the players.
