Many people believe that the old nostalgia of the original Hocus Pocus that came out in 1993, is being changed because of the cheesy recreation. When Hocus Pocus first came out it was not well known, but ovetime it started to become extremely popular. So, when people heard about the sequel they expected it to live up to its name, but instead people weren’t happy with the movie.
Hocus Pocus, directed by Kenny Ortega, was and is still one of most famous Halloween movies. When rumor went around that Hocus Pocus 2 was coming out, almost everyone couldn’t wait. Seeing that the original Sanderson Sisters’ roles were being reprised as the original actors.
Once people watched the sequel, many fans were upset. “Hocus Pocus 2 was disappointing and had a weak plot…It was cheesy and hard to watch.” – Caroline Emerich. Many fans of the original movie were shocked at how seemingly rushed this production was.
When Hocus Pocus was first released back in 1993, it got a whopping 8.2 million views within a week. Though that may seem like alot, people were even more excited to see the second one because it was almost everyone’s favorite throwback thriller. Hocus Pocus 2 hit 1.009 billion views within a week of its release.
In the original Hocus Pocus, no CGI was used. However, in the second movie almost every single special effect that had to do with magic was CGI and it made it look extremely fake.
For much of my generation, the first Halloween movie our parents had us watch was Hocus Pocus. When I watched it for the first time I could remember feeling excitement, fear, and happiness at the same time. As I got older, I started to see how Kenny Ortega, who is the director and creator of this amazing film, captured so many moments of brilliant acting that reflected the characters.
I can’t count the number of times I have watched Hocus Pocus and never got bored of it. Although I have always loved Hocus Pocus, I didnt feel the same connection to the remake.
It’s a testament that proves true of the sequels we are seeing right now in the 21st Century compared to the pure and original films. Badly made sequels and reproductions is true to many movies, not just hocus pocus.
