During lunch, Dons gathered in the quad to watch the Sadie Hawkins Premiere for the dance on Feb. 22nd, starting at 7PM to 10PM. The theme, Quad(coa)chella, focuses on the music and high energy vibe of the yearly desert festival.
For this year’s theme, Freshman Class President Chloe Nauli was excited to share that, “We got inspiration from the Junior Class Officers, and it’s just really exciting that me and my co-officers get to do this for them.” Sadies will have food trucks, games, photo booths, and music everyone can dance to. The aesthetic ASB’s Freshman class wanted to display were neon and vibrant colors, and the feeling of being in a desert oasis.
Sometimes called Turnabout, the Sadie Hawkins Dance, originated as a comic strip of a father whose daughter ‘failed’ to get a husband. In order to find one for her, he gathered all the single men of his town, and had the single women chase after them, marrying whoever they caught. Over the years, it morphed into a way to encourage girls to take initiative and to flip traditions. Rather than boys asking girls to the dance, girls are meant to ask the guys to dance, subverting the previous status quo. Nowadays, girls can ask boys anytime they want, but for the 50’s, it was groundbreaking.
Contracts are available starting Jan. 29 until Feb. 6th, and are due at the end of lunch on Friday, Feb. 7th. Ticket sales begin on the 11 and end on the 19, $35 with ASB package, and $40 without. Late sales begin on the 20th, tickets $50 with or without the ASB package. Cerritos’ Freshman class is excited to see Dons come to the party, dressed in their best Coachella outfits!
