There’s not a single kid who hasn’t heard of the funnest video game platform on the internet, Roblox; however, as of recently, these kids may be in grave danger. After a major string of events beginning from Aug. 9, 2025, the multi-billion dollar company raised not only the humongous concern of child safety on the internet, but also their capacity to sufficiently handle child predators across their playerbase. Roblox now faces outrage from their community, as well as involvement in numerous lawsuits and a massive spotlight shone right onto them.
Roblox is an online video game platform, where players of all ages across the world can socialize and let their imagination run wild through millions of user-created experiences. Roblox maintains a whopping 380 million players per month and acts as one of the most successful video game companies of all time.
The start of Roblox’s potential downfall began with the permanent ban and suing of Schlep, a content creator who worked with law enforcement to ban six predators on the platform, supposedly for dangerous acts of “vigilantism.” An enormous number of other content creators have also dropped out of the Star Creator Program, which allows video stars to partner with the company for benefits, in support of Schlep as well as numerous protests across the playerbase. Schlep has now partnered with host of To Catch a Predator, Chris Hansen, to film a documentary on the situation.
Louisiana Attorney Liz Murrill has also set out a lawsuit against the company, accusing them of “prioritizing user growth, revenue, and profit over child safety.” Murrill criticizes Roblox for their minimal safety controls and complete lack of action against child sexual abuse material, even when the evidence presents itself.
Altogether, this has resulted in a tremendous loss of $12 billion dollars in marketplace value as of Aug. 14, bound to turn the heads of investors and Roblox higher-ups.
Roblox released multiple articles to their newsroom in attempts to calm the storm. Roblox has defended their delayed reaction to inappropriate games and behavior towards children, stating “no system is perfect and bad actors adapt to evade detection” and ensures its users that Roblox is constantly working towards maintaining the safety of children day by day. They also announced new safety initiatives, including Roblox Sentinel, a model that weeds out violative action by analyzing long-term behavior patterns.
Despite this, the community remains restless, calling out Roblox for refusing to address Schlep himself and accept responsibility for wrongdoings. A petition aiming to remove CEO David Baszucki from his position has also been created, in which it has 261,892 verified signatures as of Aug. 30.
No matter their next course of action, Roblox will definitely need to defend themselves against the documentary and lawsuits coming their way, as well as rebuild their public image.
