Friday night lights shined bright on the Dons as they kept the Jug at Cerritos High School for a second straight year with a decisive 35–7 victory over Gahr.
The week leading up to the game was filled with spirit activities and a rally that energized the student body in preparation for the annual crosstown rivalry. The roar of the crowd carried throughout the game, and rightly so. The players were competing not only for the Jug, a trophy awarded to the winner each year, but also for hometown bragging rights. The Jug will once again be displayed in the Cerritos High School front office.
The excitement began almost immediately. Before fans could settle into the stands, junior Terrence Grissom Jr. (#2) set the tone with a 13-yard touchdown run. With a successful extra point, the Dons jumped to a quick 7–0 lead over the Gladiators.
Throughout the second quarter, Cerritos’ defense held strong, preventing Gahr from putting points on the board. The teams went into halftime with the Dons leading 7–0.
The third quarter brought even more energy. Senior Justin Sagun (#12) scored a touchdown, followed by a successful PAT to extend the lead to 14–0. Moments later, two more touchdowns came in quick succession: one from senior Tyler Ky (#8), and another from senior Jayden Bagaygay (#3). Both were capped off with an extra point, pushing the score to 28–0.
Gahr managed to score a touchdown and PAT later in the game, closing the gap to 28–7. But the Dons weren’t finished. Senior Suvan Pradhan (#8) capped off the night with a touchdown and extra point, celebrating in the end zone as Cerritos sealed the game at 35–7.
With the victory, the Jug stays in the hands of the Dons for another year. For those who missed the dominating performance, the team’s next game is on the road at Portola High School on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 7 p.m.
