We welcome Ms. Cynthia Buzenes, the new counselor for the tenth through twelfth grades, last names LID-ROB, to Cerritos High School. Ms. Buzenes can be found in the back office or contacted through [email protected] on the cerritoshs.us page. As someone who wants to make a difference and answer any questions you may have, Ms. Buzenes leaves her office door open for anyone who needs help.
Arriving from both Cal State Long Beach and the University of Irvine, Ms. Buzenes worked as a preschool, elementary, and middle school teacher throughout six years. After working with kids of all ages and stages, Ms. Buzenes felt she wanted to give kids extra support beyond class time and asked herself, “How can I support my students outside of just academics?” and became the counselor she is today.
During her off time, Ms. Buzenes enjoys nature with her two sons. She enjoys the dynamic energy of softball and soccer, as well as the soothing vibes of afternoon picnics. “Anywhere I can get the opportunity to be outside, sign me up!” says Ms. Buzenes.
As it is her first year of counseling, Ms. Buzenes aims to create fulfilling connections with her students and be a comforting figure that all Dons can go to. “I want students to feel heard, to find lasting experiences, and to get the resources they need,” said Ms. Buzenes, “All my other office tasks don’t matter much if my students don’t feel supported by me.”
