Andrew Chan is new to Cerritos High School, but not to teaching. He is a student teacher for Mr. Honda in Room 603 for the Life program. Before coming to Cerritos, he gained experience working at an elementary and a middle school.
Currently transitioning into special education, he attended Cal State Long Beach to earn his multiple-subject credential and bachelor’s degree. For his credentials, he attends National University.
Chan said the biggest influence on his teaching journey is his students. “Seeing the challenges they face, whether they succeed easily or need more support, motivates me to help them along the way,” he said. “I hope my guidance will not only prepare them academically but also give them skills for life.”
When he first met his wife, they shared a love for travel, and it quickly became a family tradition. Now that their daughter is 5 years old, she has begun to join their adventures, already visiting Japan, Korea, and Mexico. Every summer, they plan a trip abroad, and together they’ve explored 38 countries, each destination adding new experiences and memories to their journey.
More than anything, he wants his students to remember him as someone who believed in them and encouraged them to do their best.
