On Oct. 22, 2025, the barbeque, hosted by Dr. Flores, took place during lunch on the blacktop. It was for all Dons with perfect attendance in the first quarter. “We want to acknowledge all the students who have perfect attendance and be able to give them a reward,” says Cerritos High Foundation President Sonia De Mesa.

Staff came down from the district office to serve barbeque and veggie burgers, as well as fresh fruit, baked beans, and drinks. The event featured a DJ, playing fan-favorites like “Intimidated” by KAYTRANADA, “This Girl” by Kungs, and many more.

Students had a range of opinions on perfect attendance. When asked about it, freshman Angel Thapa says “It depends on the person, because some people find it harder to wake up in the morning, and you can’t control when you get sick. It varies.” On the other hand, freshman Marcos Rojas says that “If you put your mind to it, it’s like second habit to get perfect attendance.”

Over 360 students got perfect attendance last quarter. If students didn’t make it to this event, this isn’t end-all-be-all. Dr. Flores says that “We’re trying to do this four times a year at the quarter, so even if for the first ten weeks you couldn’t be here on time, you still have three chances to get it.” All students are eligible for the next event, as long as they have perfect attendance. We don’t know what the next event will be, but it’s bound to be exciting.
