Students and band members await the new Freshmen.

CHS Link Crew, ASB, and staff kicked off the school year by welcoming the class of 2026 with the Freshmen Orientation event on August 11.

Entering through the south gate, the students received a warm welcome from cheering upperclassmen before they headed to the tables to get their name tags.

Freshmen then entered through the west gym for a short speech from Principal Walker. Then, freshmen were asked to walk through the Cerritos Way Gate to officially start their high school journey.

Link crew members Senior Caleb Chang-Leonard and Sophomore Josephine David had the honor of holding the gate open for the incoming class. “I felt really happy to do this” Chang-Leonard said. “I was happy to do it, especially since it’s my first year in link crew,” David said.

Chang-Leonard and David prepare for their big moment.

After passing through the gate, the new CHS students walked gauntlet of the band playing and teachers and students cheating. After the gym event was distribution: stopping at the ASB window for a locker or class package, then heading to the gym to pick up schedules and IDs before waiting in lines under canopies to check out books.

“All the people here are really nice, and I’m really looking forward to being a part of this huge family 10/10 experience.Go Dons!” Freshman Yujun Ge said.
