On February 7th, the High School Honor Band performed at Whitney High School in the 2023 ABCUSD Honor Band Concert.

The High School Honor Band was conducted by Director Gregory Whitmore, who is currently an Assistant Professor of Instrumental Education at California State University of Fullerton. The band was made up of students from Gahr, Artesia, Whitney, and Cerritos. The band performed four pieces: Consuelo Ciscar, Stillwater, Reckoning, and The Machine Awakes. Each piece was thematically distinct from one another, with the last one even including an electronic synth.

Students who were part of this band had to go through an audition process, which was hosted at Cerritos High School last month. Musicians from CHS who were accepted include Senior Edward Jiang (flute), Senior Katelyn Gomez (clarinet), Senior Thomas George (bass clarinet), Senior Justin Costa (trumpet), Senior Kai Cooray (trombone), Junior Ella Tai (oboe), and Junior Owen Mendez (tuba).

The concert also showcased the Middle School Honor Band, which was conducted by Director Rich Gordon, a band director at Sycamore Jr. High School. The band was made up of students from Haskell, Tetzlaff, Ross, Fedde, and Carmenita.
