On August 14th of 2023, the first day of school began for the students of Cerritos High School. The class of 24 continued the annual tradition of gathering on senior hill to collect their royal gear, sashes and crowns, and instagram the moment to send all their followers.
Though the seniors take center stage on the first day back, the underclassmen were just as anxious and excited to be on campus. ASB assisted freshmen navigate their way to classes while avoiding the pitfalls that continued construction has created. But the struggles of renovations have led to a more comfortable environment, with hallways and classrooms promoting the school colors, black and gold.
As with all starts, the day had a few technical difficulties, with internet failures, but our counselors stepped up to help all students find their way to classes on time.
Lunch time brought on the start of back to school spirit week. The quad activity, ran by our amazing ASB, was Punch-A-Prize. Students simply punched through colored tissue paper covering a solo cup and received the prize inside. Participation equaled “winner” as each cup had CHS items such as key rings, and lanyards.
Ultimately, the first day introduced the students to their teachers and staff members but was really about seeing friends once more and remembering how much fun the campus can be.
