On Friday, August 18th, at 12:50 PM Cerritos Dons piled into the lunch area to celebrate making it through the first week and the start of football season. Football players lined the stage as brief introductions were made of our varsity team’s seniors players in support of the game against Buena Park High School later that night at Rants Stadium.
The Pep Squad, who organize all of our rallies, were synchronized and professional as they entered center quad to rev up the spirit the cheerleaders could not make even a single mistake. Master or Ceremonies, Junior Cheerleading Captains, Samantha Meili and Alena Nielson, transition from introductions, to performances, and to crowd participation games.
Students were invited to join in on the fun with a balloon game. Students were divided by classes and then a class color balloon was tied to their foot. The mission was to pop the balloons of all the different grade levels. Though the match was close, ultimately Juniors reigned supreme, when the final freshmen, Ralph Durante, was eliminated.
To close out the celebration, Principal, Patrick Walker commented on his “big expectations” for the new head football coach, Mr. Demel Franklin. He encouraged our students to go the football game, “It’s a Friday night: no school tomorrow. Go cheer on the Dons!”
