Dons took to the east gym on December 6 in order to donate blood during the first school blood drive since 2019. A total of 55 students volunteered to take part in the activity hosted by Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) officials, as well as Mr. Paul Park.
The blood drive collaborates with Cedars-Sinai and PIH Health in order to provide blood for important medical procedures. One donor, senior Matthew Arellano, bravely took part despite his fear of blood, stating that he “wanted to do something nice, and maybe even get over my fear.” All donors were given snacks after to keep up their blood sugar, and were rewarded for their participation with a choice between a free shirt or an In-N-Out Burger gift card.
HOSA officials worked from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. in order to pull off the event. Despite the event not being hosted for a few years due to COVID-19, it should be regularly scheduled once a year from now on.
