August 17th marked the fourth day of welcome back spirit week. With the temperature outside hitting 91° ASB’s commissioners of spirit planned a competitive water balloon toss. As lunch was underway people crowded around to take part in the first round. The main attraction was our very own principal, Mr. Walker, and ASB advisor, Mrs. Mattachet.

Shawn Nguyen and Morgan Stecher (commissioners of spirit) jumped on the microphone and gave directions for the game. Two lines of 18 were formed with each person facing one another. Every pair that was teamed up had to be standing directly across from the other and ready so they could toss the water balloon toss. If your balloon popped you were removed from the game, but if it didn’t you would advance to the next round and have to take one step back making the stakes higher and more intense.

Winners of the first round of water balloon toss, Seniors, Diego Martinez and Owen Mendez.

The first round consisted of a total of eight rounds before the final two pairs were left. Mr. Walker and Mrs. Mattachet, and Seniors, Diego Martinez and Owen Mendez. It only took one last toss for the winning team to prevail, Diego and Owen. The bystanders and previous players cheered for the pair as they took their victory home back to their lunch table.

The water balloon toss not only created amusing entertainment but also created a sense of comradery among all those that participated and watched. Once again another great way to kick off the ending of the first week!
