Cross Country is considered an individual sport, but anyone in the sport knows it’s a sport built on team spirit. In Cross Country there is always someone to laugh with, smile with, and cheer you on in races or just in general.
The Ohana that is Cross Country represented CHS at one of their biggest competitions of the season, the 605 League #2 on October 9th at Clark Park. The CHS Cross Country team faced tough competition with other racers from teams such as Artesia, Oxford, Pioneer, and Whitney, but it did not stop Anna Field brought home 1st place for the girl’s varsity race and Vincent Valenzuela brought home 2nd place for the boy’s varsity race. During Vincent’s Valenzuela race, he started at the back, but with the love and support from his team, he was able to finish strong, with second place. Coach Watanabe said, “I’m just hoping that they continue to work hard and stay focused on their goal and I think that we definitely keep at it that we have a chance of sweeping the league for the league championships.”
Even if you’re not the greatest runner, as long as you give it your all, that’s what matters, everyone will be proud, for the impact you made in your and other’s lives. You will always feel like you’re important and loved, even if you just did something small. This has a large part to do with our coach Mr. Jonathan Watanabe. He makes sure bonding is the number one element of our memories, whether at practice or not, you will always enjoy spending time with friends, while also doing what you’re supposed to do.
I highly suggest that if you are looking for a family that will support your growth on the team and in your personal life that you think about joining Ohana. If not and you just want to marvel at the Cross Country teams excellence come out November 6th to see the 605 finals.
