Kudos to boys varsity basketball for taking a win at home playing against Whitney High School this past Wednesday night. This was a very intense game for both teams, but Cerritos came on top with a win of 64-32.
The first half of the game had Cerritos and Whitney fighting for the ball to score any chance they got. The ball went back and forth until Cerritos took charge of the ball. Senior, Benson Cho, made a layup in the first quarter and Sophomore, Noah Lai, achieved two layups in a row. For the second quarter, we were able to increase our score by the help of Senior, Nathan Ju, with a 3 pointer and Senior, Jaylen Barsana, with a layup. By the end of the first half, we were 20-12.
With a big advantage in score, Cerritos was determined and motivated to keep scoring. The players consistently continued scoring point after point. The second half resulted in Senior, Jaylen Barsana, scoring two 3 pointers and Senior, Jaden Ribac, scoring a 3 point and two layups. Senior, Benson Cho, scored the most free throws and earned the most score points throughout the entire game.
In all, throughout the fierce competition, the team ended up victorious. The crowd cheered and enjoyed watching their team take the win. At the end of the game Coach Watanabe said, “I am very proud of the team. We maintained our focus on both ends of the floor throughout the entire game.”
