On December 10, Cerritos High School’s band the Dinosaurs, performed in the quad during lunch. The band is composed of teachers with Grace Ahn on the keyboard, Mark Kato on the guitar and vocals, Young Min Pak on the bass, and Wade Varieur on the drums.
The setlist featured four popular songs: Pride by U2, Yellow by Coldplay, Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles, and Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. The songs and the band were well received, with the last song featuring special guest senior Jemiah Carys Villasin on vocals.
Guitarist and science teacher Mark Kato shared that he began playing guitar in high school. “I want to inspire students to play the guitar like I did in school,” Kato said. He noted that his interest in The Beatles motivated him to practice regularly, starting with Beatles tracks and church songs.
For students who missed the event, The Dinosaurs perform several times throughout the year. Their previous performance took place in November. Keep a lookout for future updates , and appearances at @cerritosdonsjournalism on Instagram.
