On March 12, our Cerritos High School students gathered in the West Gym, filled with Rio de Janeiro decor inspired by the “Rio” movie, for the Spring Sports Assembly. Set up by ASB, the assembly featured the various varsity teams of the upcoming spring season during second period. All our sports dons, introduced by grade, showed off their school pride, team dedication, and got the audience excited with participatory games.
Members of ASB first congratulated the winners of the wrestling CIF championship, and the CHS dance team, who won their WSE National Championship. The Cheer team then opened the show, performing a dance routine featuring a variety of hit pop songs. Then varsity baseball took the stage with a video showcasing their practice, followed by varsity softball. Together, they held a game with the audience, where participants tested their reaction time and grab the softball before their opponent all-while playing head-shoulders-knees.
Afterwards, boys golf entered by hitting beach balls into the audience. Boys tennis was right behind them, tossing candy into the crowd. Then, both girls and boys badminton were introduced. The varsity swim team, as well as girls and boys volleyball, were showcased as well. The track team was introduced last.
“It’s very fun and exciting how these assemblies manage to connect everyone together through games and themes”, said volleyball player senior Jasmine Santos, “it really brings together the school’s spirit.”
The Spring Sports Assembly successfully hyped up the Dons for the upcoming season, with many victories soon to be taken.
