Cerritos High School conducted an evacuation for an unknown reason, disrupting regularly scheduled classes and the ongoing AP Exams. On May 7 at 2:29 p.m., the intercom went off announcing that all students must evacuate, putting students, teachers, and staff into lines on the blacktop.
“The Cerritos Sheriff’s Department asked that we go on an evacuation lockdown,” said assistant principal Mrs. Jessica Monserrate, “I do not know exactly why.”
Local law authorities have responded to the scene. Police are moving through campus and protecting students. Police cars and fire trucks were stationed outside campus. Drones have also been seen flying over the school’s buildings.
“First, we heard the announcement and suddenly, we were walking out,” said senior Suzanne Pathan, “it was all just very confusing.”
Cerritos High School’s administrators also sent out emails to families, informing them of the evacuation and maintaining proper communication.
“I appreciate the fact that this staff is working together to make sure everyone is safe,” said speech counselor Ms. Camille Mojica.
At 3:14 p.m., students were dismissed and allowed to go home. More information about the evacuation is underway.
