Dons trekked onto the safari at the College Decision Day Rally, celebrating one of the biggest days of a student’s life where a student must fully commit to a college. On May 1 during snack, seniors were surrounded by savanna decor, wild performances, and proud staff in safari gear. The rally congratulated not only top scholars, but also the accomplishments of every senior during their high school career.

Students were welcomed by Cerritos High School’s Cheer Team, dancing their pompoms and passing out celebratory bracelets. As Dons walked in, DIY trees with student’s faces adorned the walls while paper vines hung from the ceilings. Many balloons of monkeys, giraffes, and other safari animals were also tied across the stands.

ASB Advisor Ms. Holly Matchett started off the show, thanking College & Career Counselor Ms. Diaz for the help she’s given to aspiring seniors throughout the school year. A five minute video, created with the help of the Video Production class, displayed the many college choices students have taken. Ms. Matchett also gave athletic recognition to those signed for college sports teams.

Assistant Principal Ms. Jessica Monserrate also introduced the winners of the Swag Raffle, where students received bags of goodies, such as gift cards and Cerritos High School merch.

Students were then brought to the stage for “Field Exercises,” playing a live-action version of Hungry Hungry Hippos, in which pairs tried to grab as many colored balls as possible in the span of one minute. The rally was closed off by a Cerritos Dance Team performance, who shuffled to a variety of hip-hop songs.

“I always love celebrating the seniors and I’m so proud of each and every one of you guys for all the decisions you’ve made,” said Ms. Matchett, “whether it be going to a college, entering the workforce, or taking on the army, you’re all super amazing!”

As the last rally of the school year, the College Decision Day Rally was a great reminder of what everyone has accomplished and a great end to a senior’s journey.
