The Cerritos’ Girls Golf team is swinging into the fall season with both varsity and jayvee teams. Coach Paul Park teaches 15 hard-working golf players. With these fantastic athletes, they have participated in over 10 games from different schools around the Cerritos area. These girls have won 9-13 of their matches as of Oct. 7, 2025.
With encouragement from Coach Parker, players such as freshman Kate Kim have made the outstanding achievement as the Long Drive Champion when playing the Walnut High School tournament. When asked what Girl’s Golf is like, Kim said, “A regular day at practice involves iron work (which controls and shapes the golf clubs), putting, chipping, and playing on the field”. She also added, “I joined Girl’s Golf because I get to play golf with some amazing people everyday”.
These girls start their games as early as 6 a.m. and play until noon. Unlike other sports, Girls Golf is only held during the fall season. Therefore, they take part in at least 3 tournaments per week. With this many games a week, players participating skip their fifth period three times a week.
So, even if Girl’s Golf is more of an individual sport, that doesn’t primarily mean that practice doesn’t require teamwork. With the amount of effort put in by these girls, it’s no surprise that these ladies aim for great achievements.
